Volunteers needed to help train student doctors!
Could you spare 20 minutes to share your experiences of health and illness with student doctors?
We are welcoming student doctors from the University of Sheffield to the practice to gain practical experience.
Students in their first two years of training come to the practice in groups of six-eight to learn about different medical conditions, and to chat to patients with these problems to find out how it affects them.
The programme aims to help students put their ‘book’ learning into a real life context and increase their ability to understand health from a patient’s perspective. It is usually a very enjoyable session, and the students find it very helpful.
We would like to set up a bank of volunteers who would be able to come in for about 20-30 min to share their story with the students and help them learn. These sessions typically happen on Thursday mornings (10.30 –11.30am)
The students will be learning to speak to patients and listen to their stories. There may be a GP present as a tutor to help the students ask their questions. The time set aside for the students is for their learning so there wouldn’t be an opportunity to get treatment from a GP as part of the session.
If you feel you would be able to help with one of these sessions, then please leave your name and contact details with the front desk, or contact us on 01246819444 or email us on ddicb.admin.thesprings@nhs.net
